every once and a while when i'm lacking inspiration (ok, maybe once a day), i'll re-visit the j morgan puett website, as witnessed in the previous post. i feel like as many times as i've seen it all, i'm always discovering something new there. it really made me want to make something right then and there. and even though i have a clothing line, rarely do i do the sewing myself these days. because i'm out of practice, i thought making something really simple would be a good way to get back into it, and i wouldn't get bored by the complications that can arise when using a sewing machine you've never really learned how to use.
there is a lot of fabric in my apartment, but i have this pillowcase that i bought in puerto rico with my friend julia a few years back...it's a really beautiful white linen with fagoting and a simple embroidery...i've washed it so many times that it started to disintegrate. i didn't want to throw it away, so i hung it up for a while. and then took it down. i decided recently that i wanted to make it into a dress, or use it as inspiration for one. so now, finally, here it is. in all it's glory. inspired by j morgan puett's amazing everything.
i wore it to see grizzly bear (with a slip, of course) but the line was too long, so we ended up at hotel delmano instead. none of that really matters, but by the time i got home, the dress had shredded about 75% more. it's a bit ridiculous, but i love it.
better pictures coming when the light comes out.

(From WWD 8/21/09)
Like grads gearing up for a reunion, a group of former Vogue staffers-turned-designers have decided to band together for Fashion’s Night Out on Sept. 10.
The lines Hester, Duskin, Doucette Duvall, Thread Social, Prova, Gryphon and Wren will take over the Bellhaus Bond Street pop-up store for their own temporary pop-up space, part of a mini block-party with the adjacent Billy Reid and Rogan boutiques.
Dubbed the Vogue Alumni House (they boast two former André Leon Talley assistants, two fashion writers and a jewelry and watch editor among their ranks), the evening will include DJ sets by Sebastian Kim, Johnny Misheff and Skaught and customized Fashion Night Out T-shirts for sale.

our favorite bow-tie-wearing pair-of-hot-legs had a birthday party at the standard in new york recently. pictures to come, but check out the t-shirt i designed and gave away with danielle, casey, and annebet! it was actually casey and danielle's BRILLIANT idea to do a t-shirt gift, but i'm a geek who sits in front of the computer all day when not lugging fabric back and forth in the garment district, so the second i read their email i was in illustrator mocking up ideas...look out for them as 50 lucky guests left the party, many of them in their new t-shirts!

a few weeks ago, our fall lookbook model, rebecca schiffman, performed at bruar falls in williamsburg (brooklyn). you can't really tell from the image (thanks iphone) but she's wearing the ruffle blouse from spring '09 and the lace ruffle skirt from fall '09! with white bucks! she looked and sounded beautiful.
it was a really nice show, and at the end she performed a cover of robyn hitchcock and the egyptian's "i'm only you." i've posted the song before, as I've been obsessed with it since the first time i heard her play it. it's so amazing, but i think it's even better when she sings it. and i'm not just saying that because i want to use her again...
