rich, brilliant, and willing

no, that's not an advertisement for myself. it's the company that made these brilliant lamps, shown at the 2009 gift fair recently. gorgeous, and lighting up my life right now. is it possible to wear this?

wht is it about the cities portland that is just so amazing? portland, oregon, and now, portland, maine.

from PTLDME, which i gather is the rogues gallery blog. they make great clothes and beautiful polaroids. i came across it though strong kent wythe.

no joke

deena, from strong kent wythe, posted this yesterday, and because it's just so good, and so true, i have to re-post.

purple

photo from where the lights end, or WTLE.
i get jealous whenever i see hair like this. for my 8th grade graduation, i bleached my hair, and then dyed it purple. it lasted about a week or two at most, but i always get nostalgic for it. i just know those days are to blame for the rough state of my hair now. but...maybe one day i'll go out on a limb and do it all over again. i think it's just wildly fabulous.

bonnie brince billy

i love this man. here's his live cover of r. kelly's "the world's greatest," a brilliant song. this isn't very duskin-like material, but if you haven't seen r. kelly's trapped in the closet, go forth and watch it now. it's wildly imaginative, complex, and fascinating to no end.

*thanks to anh from owley patrol for the x-mas mix this was on.

steven alan | duskin spring 09

steven alan was the first retailer to place an order with duskin for spring, and for that i am so grateful. i've always been a fan of the store, and remember back when there was only one. it's great to see their success - they have a look that is all their own, and it serves them well.
their merchandise is very nice, and well chosen, and it appears so is their team. i recently spoke with tiffany iung, and she has just posted the interview on the steven alan journal/blog. please check it out here.

tiffany also keeps her own blog (with her boyfriend- how sweet is that?), which can be seen here.

thanks! and have a great day.

round the bend

jeremy blake's video for beck. so brilliant and beautiful. and quite sad as well. just like his own story...
i vaguely remember hearing about jeremy blake way back when, but i had no idea he commited suicide a week after his girlfriend was found dead in their home, also a suicide. this was in 2007. their story was one of intense, devoted love, and increasing, joint paranoia. and their love is of hopeful inspiration, while their death...completely devastating. i get chills.
if you don't know it, read about it here.

alexandra hope | invisible sunday

last month i wrote about my very talented and busy friend alia raza, who had just directed a music video for the band known as violens. i still think that is one of the best names ever.
well, perhaps because we've known each other for 25 years, she has kindly worked some of my duskin pieces into her newest music video project for the song "invisible sunday," by alexandra hope, an artist on the label manimal vinyl. these are stills pulled from the shoot, and they are

just.

so.

amazing.

the video and album of the same name will debut in february, so please check back, as i'll be posting it here.

tune in / tune out

there's a new playlist up, and it's now manual instead of auto-play, because if you're like me, you open multiple blogs at once, and sometimes there's a scary symphony arrangement between them all that could definitely be avoided. now, you have the power.

i'm still unpacking and working (i have a feeling those words will be repeated through many more posts), so i quickly just thought of some songs i was feeling for my mood right now. how do i sound to you?

a myriad harbour

totally swimming in moving boxes here...
before i forget, i want to thank kara, from all things ordinary, and maria, from allure-allure, for writing about duskin on their blogs recently. i always (read: obsessively) look forward to their posts and it's such an honor that they would ever want to include anything about me and my line! so, thank you. so much.

the more i see, the more i want

i can't stop.

after so many moves and waaay too many purges over the last 3 years, i am, yet again, moving in 10 days. hopefully it will be the last for a while.
and because i've gotten rid of so much, i am now in a predicament of needing furniture, and have become obsessed as of late. see most recent posts here and here.

rarely do i like to buy anything and leave it as is. or, if i have an idea of what i want, and i can't afford it or find it, i'll find a way to re-create something similar, and knowing that it has my own personal touch makes it that much more special.

next DIY? i think this feathered pendant lamp will be it. HEAVEN.

image from apartment therapy.

*after immediately googling feathers, i came across some suppliers, and thought...not only would the lamp be amazing in white, as pictured....but black could be totally sick as well. HEAVEN HEAVEN.

akihiro furuta continued

these, i think, were much older, and didn't share the same playful mood as the ones i listed earlier. however, they are still so lovely.

silly love songs

the most appropriate song for these images that were found on akihiro furuta's flickr photostream. akihiro is a portrait photographer and many or most of his photos on flickr are of him and his family. i love how they all are so cheerful, and they seem so eagerly costumed up. i suppose it could be said that a family that dresses up together stays...incredibly happy. what a beautiful thing....adopt me!

i can just go on and on about and with the photos, but there are really so many amazing ones you're better off checking out his page yourself.

thank you to absolute beauty for this amazing find.
